In 1922, Leon W. Steward, a former member
of the Denver Alumni Chapter, founded the fraternity's national service
project, the "Guide Right Program" with J. Jerome Peters.
Today, the Denver Alumni Chapter is doing its part to further Kappa's
critical work with youth.
The Denver Alumni Chapter works in conjunction
with the Omicron Zeta Chapter to provide an end-to-end mentorship
program for young men ages 10-18. The program is a dynamic vehicle that
builds the confidence of the young men and teaches them life skills.
The emphasis is placed on topics such as Respect, Academic Discipline,
Business Etiquette, and Higher Education. The purpose of the Guide
Right Program is to simply guide these young men in the right direction
by providing scholarships, leadership, and other necessities, and to
also inform them in the professions and career options. The Guide Right
Program meets every third Sunday during the academic year from 3:00
p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Kappa Tower.
The Denver Alumni and Omicron Zeta chapters
jointly sponsor a program known as "Kappa Instructional Leadership
League" (Kappa League). Kappa League is a citywide program
for the educational, occupational and social guidance of male high
school level students. It is designed to help young men grow and
develop their leadership skills in every phase of human endeavor. The
young men are highly involved in various community service activities
within the high schools and the Denver-Metro Area. In addition, the
Kappa League also has an active step team that showcases its talents at
community functions and high school competitions. The step team
provides an excellent opportunity for the young men to build their
confidence, interpersonal communication skill and teamwork. Both
chapters work hard to help these young men visualize success at all
stages of their development. The Kappa League Program meets every first
and third Sunday during the academic year from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
at Kappa Tower.
